His whole life, everything he knew being dragged away lifeless by humans, he picked up the dead human's improvised and primitive weapons, and tracked them back to their village, and as night fell he let hell out upon the humans, both in his human form and lion form.
As dawn came upon he had killed everyone in the village and left the burning ruins. He dedicated his life to harm any human he would meet, but eventually realised that not all humans are evil, and then just sought out those villages and humans that would take from nature without giving back and then reigned hell upon them.
Many years did Evan spend fighting humans, until he eventually started to settle into human civilization, and then spend time as a mercenary for some of the bigger cities and villages, after a year or two of that, he heard rumours about this school for skinchangers, since he's quite tired of humans and still have a great dislike of them, he thought it could be worth looking into, and so he journeyed south.
